The latest Donor Pulse report found that 75% of UK adults have moderate to high trust in charities, well ahead of corporations (36%), the UK government (35%), mainstream media (33%) and political parties (22%).

That trust is translating into support. Almost three quarters (73%) had donated in the previous three months and 74% intend to give in the coming quarter, despite continued pressure on household finances.

For charities, maintaining that trust is crucial. More than four in ten donors said concerns about where their money goes can hold them back from giving to international causes. Clear, credible communication about impact matters.

And this is where direct mail has a natural advantage.

Marketreach research found that 71% of people completely trust the mail they receive. For a sector that already commands high levels of trust, communicating through a trusted medium makes sense.

Direct mail gives charities the space to tell stories, demonstrate impact, thank supporters properly and show exactly what donations make possible.

It can also help turn individual donations into long-term relationships. Enthuse found that 34% consider themselves regular donors, while 14% have already included a charitable gift in their will and a further 35% are open to doing so.

A trusted sector communicating through a trusted channel. Charities and direct mail really are a match made in heaven!
